PROJECT BRIEF

ElectraNet approached Red Pony to design a Microsoft Word report template based on the organisation’s existing branding that could be used to produce complex regulatory reports while eliminating the step of transferring the content to a desktop publishing application.

ElectraNet operates and manages an electricity transmission network comprising almost 6,000 km of high-voltage electricity transmission lines in South Australia. The company has about 350 employees and provides high-voltage maintenance and management, technical design, telecommunication and specialist remote operating services.

In addition to graphic design specifications (colour, logos), the template required had to be compatible with older installations of Microsoft Office (2010).

Red Pony created a custom MS Word report template containing a full set of formatting styles, including a heading hierarchy, body text, tables, bullet lists, numbered lists, figure captions, headers and footers, table of contents and appendices.

As company staff could not be assumed to have prior experience or training in the use of templates, Red Pony was engaged to deliver training in the application of Microsoft Word styles and other functions to ensure end users of the template could apply its full functionality.

By project’s end, ElectraNet had a highly functional and easy to use report template capable of producing documents of a consistently high standard that successfully reflect the organisation’s corporate brand.

As the template can be used to generate the final version of the report as a polished publication in PDF format, it obviates the need to transfer this content into a desktop publishing application, resulting in a significant cost saving.

In addition, the training provided to ElectraNet staff has ensured that they are efficient and effective users of the new template and of Microsoft Word more generally.
