Proofread 57,000-word evaluation of the Australian NGO Cooperation Program.
The Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) provides annual funding for Australian non-government organisations. It is the largest program of its kind, allocating $134 million in the 2014–15 financial year – approximately one-fifth of all funding provided to NGOs. The purpose of the evaluation was to assess the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of the ANCP as a method of allocating funding, and to recommend improvements.
As a report that would have consequences for such a large financial expenditure, it was crucial to DFAT that the evaluation be free from any errors that might undermine the authority of the report and readers’ confidence in its recommendations.
DFAT engaged Red Pony to identify and correct any spelling, grammar and usage errors throughout the 160-page report, including checking tables and graphs.
The primary audience for the report was Australian NGOs. As these are the very organisations that might receive or be denied funding under ANCP, it was important for the report to be an open, transparent evaluation of the program’s strengths and weaknesses. Red Pony contributed to this by removing jargon, clarifying acronyms and rewording for simplicity when necessary. We also created a style sheet to ensure industry-specific terminology was used consistently throughout the report.
Finally, we checked the document for broken web links and, where possible, updated them with the correct web page.
The result was a clear, readable report that DFAT could trust to reflect well on the department.
Red Pony showed an excellent eye for detail, bringing consistency and better language usage to the document while being sensitive to meaning and intention.
